J. Maskrey is a contemporary artist exploring how history, media, and technology shape the contemporary world. Maskrey was raised in Hong Kong, educated in Australia and New Zealand, worked as a designer for twenty years in London, and is now based in Los Angeles. Her work is shaped by her global perspective, drawing connections between art history, current affairs, popular culture, and the accelerating influence of technological innovation.
Maskrey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts 2024, from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned her Master of Fine Arts in 2026 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her academic background in sociology and fine art underpins a multidisciplinary practice that bridges critical inquiry with painterly experimentation, examining the cultural forces that shape how we see, remember, and construct meaning. In 2024, Maskrey presented her first solo exhibition, Giants, at Arcane Space Gallery in Los Angeles.
